FAQ

What You Need
to Know.

Key answers about LED Spectacular performance, configuration and maintenance.

How should I choose between P3.91, P4.81 and P5.9 for an outdoor LED Spectacular?
Pixel pitch should be selected according to viewing distance, screen size, installation height and content type—not simply by choosing the smallest pitch. On a 2 × 3.5 m display, P3.91 provides approximately 512 × 896 pixels, while P4.81 provides approximately 416 × 728 pixels. P3.91 is better suited to closer pedestrian or slow-traffic viewing and content with smaller text or finer graphics. P4.81 is often a more cost-effective choice for roadside and urban DOOH locations viewed from farther away. For installations where the typical viewing distance is greater than 6 meters, Star Vision can also offer P5.9. At longer viewing distances, P5.9 can provide sufficient visual clarity while further optimizing project cost. Star Vision can recommend the most suitable pixel pitch based on actual viewing distance, installation height, audience type and site conditions.
No. Higher brightness does not necessarily mean better image quality. Outdoor LED performance depends on brightness, contrast ratio, LED type, ambient light and brightness control. Star Vision’s standard LED Spectacular provides up to 6,000 nits, suitable for most outdoor applications. An ambient light sensor can automatically adjust brightness according to surrounding light conditions. For projects requiring higher contrast and deeper blacks, Star Vision can provide a black LED package. Its darker surface reduces reflected ambient light and improves perceived contrast, resulting in richer colors and better dark-content definition. Black LED packages are generally more expensive, so they are not necessary for every project. The goal is to achieve the right balance of brightness, contrast, visibility and operating cost.
Direct sunlight is one of the most demanding conditions for an outdoor LED display. Good visibility depends not only on brightness, but also on contrast ratio and ambient-light reflection from the LED surface. For locations exposed to direct sunlight, Star Vision generally recommends a black LED package. The darker LED surface reduces ambient-light reflection and provides higher perceived contrast, helping maintain richer colors, deeper blacks and better overall image quality under strong daylight. Where higher brightness is specifically required, Star Vision can also provide a gold-wire LED package capable of supporting higher brightness levels. Star Vision evaluates sunlight exposure, required contrast, viewing distance and target brightness to determine the appropriate LED package for each project.
Outdoor LED displays are exposed to heat generated by the display itself and external heat from direct sunlight. Excessive internal temperature can affect LED modules, power supplies, receiving cards and other electronics, reducing reliability and service life. Star Vision LED Spectaculars use aluminium LED cabinets and module housings combined with temperature-controlled ventilation. Good thermal management helps maintain stable operation, protects electronic components and supports consistent long-term performance.
An outdoor LED display is a modular system, so an individual component failure normally does not require replacement of the complete display. LED modules, power supplies and receiving cards can be serviced or replaced individually. Front access allows technicians to reach key components without a large rear service space. For commercial DOOH networks, Star Vision recommends keeping project-specific spare parts locally to minimize downtime. For larger deployments, we can recommend spare-parts quantities according to fleet size and expected operating period.
Yes. The LED Spectacular is designed for front maintenance, which is particularly important for roadside, pedestrian and urban installations where rear access may be limited. LED modules and key electronic components can be accessed from the front, simplifying installation, reducing maintenance time and minimizing required service space.
Maximum power and normal operating power are not the same. Maximum power represents a high-load condition, while actual advertising operation is usually considerably lower and varies with content, brightness settings and ambient light. As a project reference, a display rated at approximately 700 W/m² maximum power may typically operate at around one-third of that level under normal mixed-content conditions. Automatic brightness control can further reduce unnecessary energy consumption. Star Vision can provide both maximum power and estimated average operating power for project planning.
LED lifetime should not be interpreted simply as the number of hours before a display stops working. LEDs gradually lose brightness over time, and degradation depends on operating brightness, temperature, thermal management, power quality, environmental conditions and daily operating hours. Unnecessarily high continuous brightness can increase power consumption and accelerate degradation. Good thermal management and intelligent brightness control help maintain reliability and consistent image quality over time. Star Vision can also provide spare-parts and maintenance strategies for multi-year DOOH deployments.
An ambient light sensor measures surrounding light and allows the LED display to adjust brightness automatically. During strong daylight, the display can operate at higher brightness; in the evening or at night, it reduces brightness. This improves nighttime viewing comfort, reduces unnecessary power consumption and avoids operating LEDs at maximum output when it is not required. Brightness levels and control strategies can be configured for specific projects.
Yes. The LED Spectacular is designed for continuous commercial outdoor applications such as DOOH advertising networks, roadside media and urban digital signage. Reliable 24/7 operation depends on thermal management, power supplies, control electronics, environmental protection and brightness management—not only on the LED modules. Star Vision can configure the display and spare-parts strategy according to local climate, operating hours and maintenance requirements.
Outdoor LED displays must withstand rain, dust, humidity, temperature changes and long-term outdoor exposure. Star Vision designs the LED Spectacular as a complete outdoor system rather than treating the LED modules as standalone components. Environmental protection includes the LED modules, cabinet structure, electrical system, ventilation design, cable routing and service access. The exact IP rating and environmental specification can be configured according to project requirements and installation conditions.
For an initial recommendation, the most useful information includes screen size, typical viewing distance, installation height, single- or double-sided configuration, site photos or drawings, installation location, pedestrian or vehicle audience, typical traffic speed, required operating hours, local climate, preferred content management system and project quantity. Based on this information, Star Vision can recommend the appropriate pixel pitch, brightness, LED package, control system, thermal management solution and maintenance configuration. For DOOH projects, the objective is to configure a complete display system that matches the location, audience, operating environment and expected service life.
